Welcome! I'm Joy, and I created IntoGreat Yoga after decades of cultivating two different practices that paralleled and supported one another. I am a professional musician, and the awareness I learned studying singing made yoga feel incredibly familiar. Similarly the mindfulness I learned through my yoga practice opened up a new dimension in my singing and performing. It made me realize every part of life can benefit from cultivating awareness! Since then I've had the honor of bringing the yoga practice into performing arts venues, high schools, offices, production floors, jiu jitsu studios, dance studios, churches, and of course yoga studios. I would love to help you figure out how a yoga practice could empower you to connect deeply to your vision and purpose!

IntoGreat Yoga is all about finding commonalities and cultivating a mindset that allows us to shift seamlessly between all the seemingly disparate areas of our lives. If you've ever felt pulled in different directions by varied interests and responsibilities, or the pressure to compartmentalize the different areas of your life because they don't seem to relate or support one another, then this is the practice for you! Whether you are developing your musical or athletic talent, pursuing a corporate career, dealing with the issues of aging, and/or juggling a busy family schedule, a consistent yoga and meditation practice can enable you to connect powerfully to your internal drive and motivation, to allow you to shine your energy into all your passions and navigate them with a sense of peace and continuity, because life is afterall one practice.

Through deep breathing and guided imagery, bring a quiet steadiness to your breath, mind and body. The process of mindful, slow and steady breathing calms our often over-stimulated central nervous system, bringing us into a mind state of calm awareness. Neuroscientists have found that cultivating this state of mind boosts creativity by allowing greater clarity, focus and sustained concentration. Medical studies have shown meditation can accelerate immune response and recovery from injury. After incorporating a meditation practice, many people find they become less reactive to situations outside their control and better able to respond in a way that is both healthy and helpful.

Sound healing is a method of achieving deep relaxation and healing through the use of tone and frequency from musical instruments or even the vibrations of your own voice. If you have ever felt the stress of a hectic day melt away when you listen to your favorite song, then you have felt the power of sound healing. We store the trauma of stressful experiences physically, and as we move through life that stored trauma accumulates and often builds to a crescendo in anxiety, illness and disease. Joy weaves together the soothing tones of harp, crystal bowls, and singing to set atoms and molecules in motion to release trauma buried beneath layers of muscle and connective tissue. Music is a transformative, healing experience that brings us into a deep state of relaxation where we are more readily able to recognize trauma and allow vibration to dissipate it, restoring harmonious balance physically, mentally and emotionally.

There is growing awareness surrounding the health benefits of a consistent yoga practice such as lowering stress and anxiety, improving circulation and blood pressure, and maintaining joint health to name a few, but the principles of yoga also offer a process for developing a deep inner awareness of connection to the world around us as well as to the Source of all that is, seen and unseen. This gradually unfolding awareness allows us to experience and embody our spirituality, giving us a new perspective of the deep truths which guide us into action, leading us into the ultimate of sacred spaces, the heart! Joy is a certified YogaMass instructor. YogaMass was created by Episcopal priest Gena Davis and builds on the commonalities of these two rich traditions. Those commonalities exist within many faith traditions, and yoga can be a powerful way to integrate our beliefs and mindset, so they carry us through every experience in life.
